TomTom Introduce Travel Live Services at IFA 2011

Just before the 2011 IFA Expo in Berlin last week TomTom announced additions to their Live Services portfolio. Building on the success of the Live Traffic TomTom have now added Live Travel Services. Effectively this is an integration of Expedia, Trip Advisor, Yelp and Twitter. The services allow you to access information from the portals directly on the TomTom SatNav. This dramatically increases the amount of information available on your journey, and is integrated into the navigation engine. Unfortunately it would appear as if TomTom have simply bolted the services on the their navigation functionality rather than stand back and look at how a user would likely use the service. For instance having found a hotel on Expedia having gone through a search and selection process the natural thing to do is check the hotel out on Trip Advisor. This is where the whole system is disjointed as you now have to go back to Live Services then do a search and select using trip advisor. A much more natural usage model would be to link to Expedia and Trip Advisor from the POI details rather than having to restart the search from scratch. That aside the information looks good and can be a valuable addition to the navigation experience. The services will be launched in Germany and USA as a trial before being rolled out to the other countries where TomTom Live is available. Our video features Stephane Hareau, TomTom Director of New Products showing us how the new Travel Live Services work.

Tom Tom is the most promising constructor of Gps navigators nowadays. The Tom Tom One 125 features a 3.5" screen along with a text-to-speech feature. Then you have the maps of United States and Canada. Furthermore, you get the real traffic when you are traveling, along with any problems that may arise and the weather. You can see the routes as many times as you like to make sure that you won't make any mistakes.

Tom Tom One 125 is a movable Gps navigator which you take it off and keep it with you. It has a shiny form and it is proud because it will not give you no problems when handling it. On the touchscreen you have the spoton directions and if you wish you have the choice to pick the audio mode and listen to them. The unit can 'talk' in 30 separate languages with 50 separate voices. You can pick the one that you find more appealing.

Also, the unit will customize on its own the volume of the voice, higher or lower depending on how fast you drive. And you have the 'Latest Map Guarantee' that is an innovation by Tom Tom. From the day you buy the stock you have 30 days to download all the most recent maps by the website. Do not forget to check the Gps prices for this unit.

Tom Tom Map Share also enables you to customize the road names, road direction and Pois on your navigator, agreeing to your needs. Tom Tom has also installed a new 'Help Me' highlight which gives you added information on the local services. You will never run out of gas, or money again. This one is a very clever Gps navigator that has a free software that allows you to get all the most recent upgrades from the website. Apart from that, with the use of a Rdc-Tmc traffic receiver all the news on traffic will be right on the Gps, so that you will never get stuck in traffic.

GPS Review - TomTom ONE XL Widescreen Bluetooth GPS Navigator

!±8± GPS Review - TomTom ONE XL Widescreen Bluetooth GPS Navigator

I've just had the chance to place my excited little hands around the new TomTom One XL. Previously a Garmin GPS fan I was determined to keep an open mind about whether the new TomTom One XL could live up to the hype. Well my GPS friends you will not be disappointed.

As you know previously I have only full endorsed two GPS's and they were the Garmin 350 & 660. Well now we have another winner to add to the list - the TomTom One XL.

This little beauty is equipped with a 4.3 inch screen and weighs in at 7.4 ounces. Apparently it is an upgraded version of the TomTom One 3.5 inch but since I haven't seen the former I can't say how alike they are.

The pixel definition is superb. All the map info is now stored on a tiny flash-drive inside the unit which makes for updating maps very easy.

Overall the reason that the TomTom has impressed me so much is that the screen clarity, auto zoom and screen refresh rate is flawless.

Now with all this excitement you would think that I'm about to propose marriage, but alas it is my duty to give you both the good and the bad on this little navigator and there are few areas where the function lets you down.

Most notably is that you are unable to see the names of the roads that are upcoming on your map until you are practically already on them. If you completely trust the system or are familiar with the roads in the area then that won't be a problem but if you are like me and need to know a few streets in advance what street name that you'll be turning at then that can be frustrating.

If you are a control freak like me then that one flaw might cause a bit of annoyance but overall I think the TomTom One XL is a winner.
